I vaguely remember when this film came out, but never bothered to watch it. Then it came to the West End as a Musical, and it suddenly sparked my interest; but again, I never got around to watching it.
Anyway, I finally watched it, and it was OK. Nothing amazing to be honest, and the protagonist, although endearing, isn’t someone I could root for, after all, the story is about a woman that cheats on her partner whilst being pregnant with said partner’s child! The obvious justification is that he’s abusive and controlling; why not just leave him! The film is very much a female fantasy, where cheating is justified, so long as it ‘feels right’. Credit due to Kerri Russell, who actually makes that type of character somewhat likeable! I found the film more interesting from an independent filmmaker perspective, and was shocked to learn about how the writer/director met her demise; truly tragic. Anyway, definitely one for the ladies, but not really my cup of tea. That said, I still want to watch the musical, so there’s definitely something to it! Haha.
