I remember when this film came out; I purposely decided not to watch it. The early 2000s were dominated by 9/11 and the war on terror; and I really didn’t fancy seeing more of the same on the big screen.
I finally watched the film, almost two decades later, and I have to say, that distance really helped. I was immediately taken back to that period, and even the day of the event, with all the confusion surrounding it. It’s a very good film, and trademark Greengrass, with his frenetic camera work, and documentary style of filmmaking; you really feel like a fly on the wall. What I think the film does really well, is not take a stance on the politics of the events that took place. The viewer is literally witnessing them, as most people experienced them on the day; piecing together random pieces of a jigsaw. Sh!t went down, and everyone was just trying to figure out what the hell was going on? Worth revisiting if you’ve seen it before, and definitely worth watching if you haven’t already.
