Want an absolute masterpiece of cinema!

I bought the 4k blu-ray in November 2024, and I finally got around to watching it! If any film is worth the upgrade from standard blu-ray to 4k, then it’s this one! The cinematography, the production design and shot composition, the sound, they’re all absolute peak; just studying the shots, the layers of story and the philosophical ideas the film presents, is its own film school.

I can’t speak highly enough about this first Matrix movie; it is pure genius! And as Morpheus tells us in the film, 1999 (when this film was released) was indeed the peak of human civilisation!
Seriously, if you weren’t there, I feel sorry for you. Man, re-watching this film took me back; it was such a great time. We were so carefree and hopeful about the dawn of the new century!

That year, I was most excited about ‘The Phantom Menace’; a film I had been waiting for my entire life (having grown up on Star Wars); but if I’m honest, The Matrix was the film of the year, and as film geeks will tell you, 1999 was the year for cinema! So many bangers in one year, the likes of which has never been seen again!

I love this movie, and watching it again, 26 years after it was released, only confirms its greatness. It’s still head and shoulders above anything that’s been released in recent times, and is as fresh and relevant as ever! More relevant in fact, considering the fact that we spend all our time plugged into the internet these days, addicted to our devices, living in a digital distraction as the real world is stolen (and destroyed) from beneath our feet!

Re-watch it immediately! Preferably on a 4K blu-ray!
