When Star Wars concluded in the early 80s, it gave birth to an industry of rip-offs and clones, and as fans, we watched them all! Most were crap, but a few were good; The Last Starfighter was definitely amongst the best movies of that sub-genre.
The concept was brilliant: an arcade whizz living in a trailer park in the middle of nowhere, having to focus on his chores while his friends go off to play, is selected as a star-fighter in an intergalactic battle because of his skills playing the arcade game. Anyway, I had fond memories of the film, but hadn’t seen it in ages. It was good! Not as good as I remembered, but still solid! Definitely worth revisiting for the nostalgia hit alone!
