So, I had absolutely no intention of watching this. Marvel movies ain’t what they used to be, and the trailers didn’t excite me in the least.
But at the same time, one of my favourite pastimes is going to the cinema, and the word of mouth was really positive, so I relented. The first half of the movie totally lived up to my low expectations. I didn’t like it; it was just pure exposition. The second half, where things actually happen (although there’s still plenty of exposition, as the time frame is condensed) is more enjoyable. I’m glad they went with a comic accurate Galactus this time around, but he still looked sh!t to be honest; completely underwhelming for a planet devouring demigod! The female Silver Surfer didn’t irritate me as much as I thought she would, neither did Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards, although I would have preferred comic accurate casting. The story is pretty damn ridiculous, and the climax is just stupid to the point of verging on slapstick; but there’s enough emotional weight behind it, that you go with it. Overall, the film wasn’t as terrible as I expected, although it’s far from great. It’s a modern day Marvel movie, which is to say, it’s pretty mid, and not something I ever want to see again!
