The Cell was panned by the critics when it came out, and not being a huge Jennifer Lopez fan, I decided to give it a miss.
But with the re-release of Tarsem Singh’s masterpiece, The Fall, I figured I’d finally watch his debut feature. It’s good! I’m referring of course to the director’s cut; I have no idea what the theatrical version was like, so I’m not about to say the critics got it wrong. The premise of this film is so good, that if the conclusion was able to live up to it, this film would be a stone cold masterpiece. Unfortunately, the film backs itself into a corner and has to rely on the power of deus-ex-machina to rescue the situation. That said, the premise and first act alone, are better than most modern movies, and like the visuals, are both original, and ahead of their time. This film is absolutely worth watching!
