Man, time flies. I remember when this film came out, and the mediocre reviews it received; so I gave it a miss.
Hard to believe, but that was almost 10 years ago! I finally decided to watch it, and it was actually alright. The production design and visual effects were all top-notch, and probably better than if they were produced today (everything about movies these days is worse!). More importantly, the plight of the protagonist is something that captures the audience. Yes, the romance, and the ending stretch incredulity. Also, Jennifer Lawrence’s character isn’t very endearing, but despite all that, it’s a good watch. Especially if you fancy watching a ‘big’ Hollywood movie on a Saturday night. That’s exactly what I was looking for, and I got that from this movie. The second half doesn’t live up to the first half, but it’s still good, and worth watching.
