I’d never heard of this film until I saw it on IMDB, where it had really positive reviews, so I decided to watch it.
Sigh. I like the idea of telling a story in Northern Ireland, that isn’t about ‘the troubles’ but instead, about the kids that live in the city, doing what kids in every city do. Unfortunately, the ‘kids’ in this particular story were completely unlikeable! Just a bunch of scallywags up to no good! If you don't like the characters, then the story really doesn’t matter! Moreover, because of the heavy accents, it was difficult to make out what they were saying! It was therefore preferable that they spoke Irish, because then at least there were subtitles! Maybe that was the point, because one of the main themes of the film is the importance of the Irish language. I wish the film had a more a serious and heartfelt tone, because the subject matter really resonated. Instead, the filmmakers were going for a ‘trendy’ vibe, glamorising the use of drugs, and showing none of the negative aspects. The songs were good though.
