I vaguely remember Killing Zoe coming out back in the 90s.
I never watched it though. Films about drug fuelled ‘good times’ have never been my thing, neither have ‘Tarantino-esque’ rip-offs, and the 90s were full of both. Paris, however, is totally my vibe, and when Roger Avery (the writer and director of ‘Killing Zoe’) was talking about this film, and his time in Paris on the Joe Rogan Podcast, he caught my attention. I LOVE Paris! The only version of the film I could find was The Director’s Cut, so it may be more indulgent than the theatrical release. Still, this film was not my cup of tea. Character is king, and this film featured absolutely zero characters that I found compelling or relatable. Secondly, the plot/situation has to keep you hooked, and the second half of the film did have that, but because I didn’t like any of the characters, I couldn’t really care less about how it ended. There wasn’t much of Paris in this film either; it was mostly just interiors that could have been filmed anywhere. If watching the drug fuelled antics of a bunch of nutcases is your idea of a good movie, then this is the film for you. It’s definitely not for me.
