I rewatched Fright Night for the first time since the early 90s (probably). As a kid, I LOVED horror movies, and films about Vampires and Monsters, etc. I remember Fright Night being a good one, and it’s certainly still highly regarded amongst the fans of the genre.
So, a few decades on, how does it hold up? It’s decent. It’s neither scary, nor much of a Teen movie (unlike Lost Boys, which is very much the latter and still holds up), so the overall effect is neither here nor there. The protagonist is likeable and the story offers a good spin on the genre. In fact, it’s very much an homage to all the old Vampire and Monster movies of the Hammer era, which I also grew up watching (because they used to show repeats on the BBC while I was growing up), so if you’re a fan of the genre, you’ll definitely appreciate it. If you watched it back in the day, it’s worth a revisit, but that’s about it.
