Christmas had passed, but I still had a bunch of Christmas movies on my slate, and I didn’t want to have to wait another year to watch them, so I figured I’d watch this (as I’d never seen it before, and it was relatively short).
A few weeks earlier, I tried to watch ‘Elf’, another perennial ‘classic’ of the season that people love. I’d never seen it before, but after 45 minutes of forcing myself to endure, I had to turn it off, as it was Sooooo crap! I hadn’t laughed or smiled once in that time, and just found the protagonist to be annoying. ‘Bad Santa’, however, had enough to keep me viewing, but it wasn’t great either. Again, a film with an unlikeable protagonist, which the film hopes to ‘redeem’ by the end. It just about works, but I still didn’t like the movie. It wasn’t that funny, the structure felt episodic and repetitive and the protagonist was just too unlikeable for me. The funny moments were too few and far between. Also, it didn’t make me feel the least bit ‘christmassy’. Ah well, still plenty of Christmas movies I haven’t seen, so maybe next year…
