It was a short film with all the production crew of a feature film, paid for by a local grant presumably (back when such things actually existed).
The director was Asian (Indian) and pretty much a 'token' on his own film. No one paid much attention to him.
The director of photography was the real one calling all the shots. The entire crew looked up to him and were only there because of him.
So I thought I'd give him a chat.
I asked him how he'd got in the biz.
'Don't tell me you were a runner' I scoffed.
'I was actually. I then spent 12 years rising up the ranks'
He told me.
'Fcuk that $h!t.' I thought to myself.
Who has that kind of time?!
I was not yet a year out of Uni and man was I in a hurry. Moreover, I was ready to direct a feature film dammit!
The world could not wait for my genius to be unleashed upon it!!!
Cut to the present.
The world is STILL waiting for my genius to be unleashed upon it.. mostly because my genius doesn't exist!
Yes, the years have humbled me greatly.
But I still believe in myself; greatly.
Of course one does ponder, had I continued down the path of a 'runner' and worked my way up through the ranks, in the intervening 14 years, surely I would be in a better place than I am now?
Fcuk it. Can't afford to think that way.
Whatever happened, happened, and it happened for my benefit. I am where I am, who cares how I got here. The point is, how do I get from where I am to where I want to be?
Keep writing? Keep making? Keep chasing?
Time is the most precious resource any of us has; yet none of us ever knows how much of it we truly have.
Rich or poor, each of us given the same 24 hours in a day to do with what we will.
Without judging myself too harshly, I will say this; I need to learn from my mistakes and spend my time more wisely. Too much of that precious resource (Time. Pay attention!!) has been squandered staring at a computer screen, often reading about some random loser's life..
Where are you going??
Hey, just because I want to stop wasting my time staring at a computer screen reading about some loser's life doesn't mean you have to too!!
Ok ok, enough pointless pontification!!
The 99 Day Challenge..?
Now, you're gonna love this, trust me!
